Will what you have burn up?

I remember reading a passage in the bible a long time ago. To sum it up for you it basically said, Every man's work shall be tried by fire one day. And what we truly have accomplished will be revealed by fire. Now after this fire, if any man's work still stands after the fire, he shall receive an award. But if any man's work shall be burned he shall suffer loss.

Now I know this passage has several meanings and means something different to each person. But this passage for so many years changed my way of thinking.

You see, I used to have a steady job, a steady paycheck, and it was great!!! But it wasn't what I was called to do. I tried to follow the standard life we are told to live with college and working a 9-5 and putting your head down so you can have a nice retirement. I truly tried, but I realized that I wasn't using the unique gift that I was given. We all have one. I decided to take a bet on myself and God and step out in faith. It's not an easy thing to do, and the word "stability" Isn't involved in this process.

It was hard because a lot of people couldn't understand it. Why would you live this way? It's way too hard to do? What IF you don't make it?

You see those are questions you cannot ask yourself when you set out on your journey or you WILL fail, no questions asked.

I say all of this because :

1) Having savings and retirement is 100% an amazing thing to do and have. You should not want to live paycheck to paycheck. And frankly, I don't think that's anyone's goal in life lol.

But if you are trying your best and doing things with the right heart, and you don't give up, you will be rewarded.

2) Don't get so caught up in the material things of life and how much money you have because when you are on your death bed, NONE of it matters.

" I have never seen a UHAUL truck at a funeral"-credit to whoever came up with that

Now getting to my point:

This passage has guided me through my journey. At times when I wanted to give up, or I let others' opinions get to me, I remember this passage. That in the end, my house, the cars, the money, the savings, the retirement, all of it will be burned up. All that will be left is the impact I left on those around me and the relationship I had with Jesus.

For me, it isn't about having all the money in the world. It's about making an impact on those around you.

Work hard, save your money, and invest if you can.

But don't get so caught up in all of it that you

1) judge other people for not having what you have

2) Forget to live right now, because you are not promised tomorrow

3) That in the end, all that will matter is the impact you left on those around you.

Fast cars, nice houses, jewelry, purses, LUXURY. It is all wonderful. I mean who doesn't like nice things?

But those things come with a price ( unless you were born into wealth). It calls for long nights in the office, running off zero sleep and giving all of your time and energy to your work. Which normally leave you neglecting other areas in your life.

Now sometimes there is the average wealth, the people who do really good with their money. They save every penny, there vacation time, and they are set for the future (If they even have a future that is). They believe in working, working, working, and their main focus is long term.

Now I am not saying this is a bad thing. We should 100% be focused on our future. We should have a savings account and a good retire meant plan.

And for the most part, people who have normally jobs, are able to attain those things. But what about the starving artists, actors, actress's, authors, Directors? What about the people who bravely step out to pursue their dreams. What about the people who bet on themselves ? They don't have a clear path like this, not even close.
