One day I couldn’t find a lighter to light my candle. So, I looked all over the house and found a pack of matches. I only had 2 left so that meant I had two tries at lighting the candle. I struck the first match and within seconds had to blow it out because the flame traveled too fast down the stick and burnt my finger. I tried the second match and it did the same thing. At this point I was desperate. So, I tried to relight the old matches. Nothing happened.
This led me to wonder why you can't light a match twice. Apparently, a match contains only so much reactive material in it. This means after the material in the match has been used up, no amount of friction will make the match relight. But what about a rechargeable battery? When a rechargeable battery dies, all you have to do is recharge it and it’s good to go again. It just needs a break to gain back all of its strength.
Most of us are like the match. When adversity strikes, we quickly burn out and give up. There is no going back for us and we lose all hope that things will get better. We live with a lot of regrets and tend to give up on most things easily. But we can be like a battery when we face adversity. We may need to take a break and recharge but no matter what we will still keep going and push through whatever adversity we face.
Don’t be a match, be a battery.
